100 Hindu and Sikh students get Baba Guru Nanak scholarship in Pakistan, selection on the basis of merit

The Evacuee Trust Property Board in Pakistan has given scholarships to minority community students to help them pursue higher education in local universities. In this scholarship has been given to 60 Hindu and 40 Sikh students. Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) is a statutory board that manages the properties of Hindus and Sikhs who migrated to India after partition, including educational, charitable or religious trusts.

The board had started Baba Guru Nanak Scholarship for minority Hindu and Sikh students in 2019. Initially, scholarships were given to 50 minority students belonging to low-income families. This year ETPB has doubled the number of scholarships.

Maximum number of Hindu students

ETPB spokesperson Aamir Hashmi said that ‘out of 100 scholarships for 2022-23, the maximum number are of Hindu students and it is given on the basis of merit. He told that this time 60 Hindu and 40 Sikh students have got scholarship.

Scholarship till completion of degree

Hashmi said that each student would be provided 10,000 Pakistani rupees (about 3,640 Indian rupees) per month till the completion of their degree. Most of these scholarships are given to students living in the Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces of Pakistan.

At the same time, according to the National Minorities Commission of Pakistan, hundreds of students are benefiting from this initiative of giving scholarship. At the same time, Hindu leaders also termed it as a big step and said that this initiative would inspire the youth to work for the nation.
