Amar Singh Chamkila director Imtiaz Ali on ‘Love Aaj Kal’ flop: All my films have had issues with execution

But audiences loved films like “Rockstar” (2011) and “Tamasha” (2015), which are also known as some of his intellectual projects. Will there be more movies like this? “I don’t want my films to come across as intellectual,” Ali said, adding, “If they were, they might come across as restrictive, and I don’t want them to belong to a minority. I’d love to make them A masala film, but I just didn’t know how to make it because I couldn’t help but be myself.”

Meanwhile, Ali, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, is back in the spotlight after four years. The filmmaker, who had never thought of making a biopic, said of the film that it would be “a magnificent story to tell in a time when people are so critical.”

When Chamkila brought back the art of live singing in his films, he wanted to go back to his roots. “The magic and illogical madness of cinema should always live on. But I don’t look forward to making more biopics,” he concluded.
