Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis was unfortunately dismissed in Friday’s do-or-die match against Chennai Super Kings. The match occurred when Rajat Patidar bowled a Mitchell Santner delivery back to the bowler, who managed to make contact with the ball with his fingertips, causing a deflection. The ball then hit the stumps and third umpire Michael Gough scrutinized the footage to ascertain whether Du Plessis’ bat was in the air. After several careful observations, Goff confirmed that the bat was indeed in the air.
Further review was required to confirm Santner’s touch, which was verified by UltraEdge technology. As a result, Du Plessis was declared out, much to his obvious surprise and disappointment. When Du Plessis walked back to the dugout, his partner Patidhar and the RCB camp, including Virat Kohli, were shocked by the decision.

After CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad invited the home team to bat in Bengaluru, RCB got off to a good start in the innings and posted 31/0 in three overs. However, a break in rain changed the momentum and the ball caught and went significantly off the surface. Mahesh Tikshana and Mitchell Santner did well to control the scoring rate when play resumed, especially slowing down Faf du Plessis.
