Strongman Singh, who has won several assembly polls, was released from Patna’s Beur Central jail on Sunday and was on parole for 15 days ahead of Munger, who is contesting the Lok Sabha polls in which Mokama is contesting.

While granting him parole, the Bihar Home Ministry mentioned the issue of “settlement of ancestral lands”.

The former attorney general challenged his conviction in the Supreme Court and asked for a suspended sentence and bail on the grounds that he had been imprisoned for six years and two months in the case, including as a prisoner awaiting trial.

The state government opposed the request. “…there are 52 cases against the appellant (Anant Singh) and I do not think it is suitable for bail. Therefore, the plea is dismissed.” Justice Navneet Kumar Pandey wrote in the order.

The Supreme Court has scheduled a final hearing on probation on July 10.

Meanwhile, Anant Singh has been seeking votes for the JD(U) candidate of Rajiv Ranjan Singh aka Lalan Singh in Mang.

Anant Singh won the 2020 assembly elections for the RJD but was disqualified as an MLA after being convicted in July 2022. Later, wife Neelam Devi won the RJD seat in the by-elections. Earlier this year, she was seen sitting on the finance bench when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar sought a vote of confidence in Parliament.
