As filming of the second season began in Noto, the show’s cinematographer Xavier Grobet realized he was standing in the exact spot where the 1960 Italian film the Adventures was filmed. with Noto standing on the steps of the cathedral white Lotus Directed by Mike White, Grobert had the idea to recreate a scene from the classic film.

The remake scene shows Aubrey Plaza entering the Italian courtyard as did Monica Vitti. the Adventures, The 1960 Italian play by Michelangelo Antonioni tells the story of the disappearance of a young woman. The woman’s boyfriend, Gabriele Ferzetti, and her best friend, Vitti, search for the missing woman, and a romance develops between them.
The similarities between the film and the TV series are startling. in both the Adventures And white Lotus, Vitti and Plaza walk around the courtyard, aware that several men have their eyes on them. From the cinematography and camera angles to the people across the courtyard, the only visible difference is in the color of the film as well as the actors in the scene.

White also decided to include the remake because of the sexual undertones in the show. Since the episode is about “the dynamics of men and women and some classic sexual politics”, according to White, they decided to “lean into archetypal Italian men coming upon a woman in the street”.
The similarities between the HBO series and the Italian film were obvious to White. ,the Adventures is as much about a desperate search for the meaning of life as it is about an actual missing woman,” the TV director described. “Clearly, white Lotus touches on the malaise of the wealthy and explores the kind of meaning you find when you’re relaxing by the infinity pool.
