The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) issued a high wave warning for Mumbai and nearby coastal areas for the next 36 hours at 11:30 am on Saturday.
According to the weather department, waves may rise between 0.5 meters and 1.5 meters.
“Rough sea conditions are likely to occur along the coasts of Maharashtra and Goa due to the effects of high period swells,” INCOIS wrote in its advisory.
Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a warning urging people not to get too close to the coastline. It has also deployed emergency services, including coastal security personnel and lifeguards, to coastal areas.
