Indian Navy closely monitors Chinese ‘spy’ ship, turns off tracker before reaching Maldives

A Chinese maritime surveillance ship is set to enter Male’ seaport, triggering a new dispute between India and the Maldives. China’s dual-purpose research ship Xiangyanghong 3 will arrive in the Maldives for personnel rotation and supplies. The Indian Navy is closely monitoring the Chinese vessel as it has been behaving suspiciously since it left the Chinese port of Sanya. Recently, the Indonesian navy arrested a Chinese crew member for turning off their transponders at least three times while crossing the Sunda Strait. Maritime traffic monitoring sites also show that Chinese ship transponders have been switched off since entering India’s Java Sea two weeks ago.
