Kashmir Files ‘obscene’ controversy: Jury chief of the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid on November 28 (Monday) termed Hindi film ‘The Kashmir Files’ as “propaganda” and “obscene”.
One of the most talked about films of the year, Lapid’s comments on the film sparked a controversy on social media, with reactions pouring in from various quarters.
What did Nadav Lapid say on Kashmir files
In his speech at the closing ceremony of IFFI 2022, Lapid said he was “troubled and shocked” to see the film’s screening at the film festival. “We were all perplexed and perplexed by the film ‘The Kashmir Files’. It struck us as a propaganda and obscene film that was inappropriate for an artistic and competitive section of such a prestigious film festival. I share this sentiment,” said Lapid. Feel comfortable sharing openly with you as the spirit of the festival can truly embrace the critical discussion that is essential to art and life.”

The Kashmir Files, which released across cinema halls on 11 March, was part of the Indian Panorama section at IFFI and was screened on 22 November.
Written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Zee Studios, the film depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir following the killings of the community by Pakistan-backed terrorists. It stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi. Kher attended a special screening of the film at the 53rd IFFI on 22 November. The nine-day film festival began on 20 November.
The film had sparked a debate among political parties after several BJP-ruled states, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, had exempted the film from entertainment tax.
Vivek Agnihotri, Anupam Kher react to comments on The Kashmir Files
Vivek Agnihotri, director of Kashmir Files, said in a cryptic social media post that truth is the most dangerous thing because it can lead people to lie. Agnihotri’s response came after veteran actor Anupam Kher, who featured in “The Kashmir Files”, on Tuesday said that truth always prevails over lies.
The Congress attacked the government over Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid’s criticism of ‘The Kashmir Files’ at IFFI, calling it an “embarrassment” and said hatred eventually dies.
A film rejected by the International Film Festival of India. Jury head Nadav Lapid called it a ‘propaganda, obscene film – inappropriate for a film festival’.
