Man arrested after Sheffield Police launch double murder investigation

Police have launched a double murder investigation after the bodies of a man and a woman in their 70s were found at a property in Sheffield.

A 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the deaths at the Terry Road address in Dore.

Officers were called to the property at 10.15am on Sunday, when the two bodies were discovered.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said both victims were “critically injured” and were pronounced dead at the scene.

He added: โ€œA 51-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He is currently in police custody.

“Specially trained officers are supporting the families of the confirmed dead”

Ch Supt Shelley Helmsley said: “This incident will undoubtedly cause great concern within the community and our thoughts are with the families of the pair who lost their lives this morning.

โ€œWe have a number of officers at the scene and expect to be there for some time today as we carry out a full investigation.

“Anybody who has any information – no matter how small – should contact us as it may aid our inquiries.”
