Lily Gladstone’s chance of winning Best Actress
If Killers of the Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone wins best actress, she could become the first Native American actor to win an acting Oscar. She was the favorite to win, having won the Screen Actors Guild title in the same category just a week earlier. She faces competition from Annette Bening in Nyad, Carey Mulligan in The Master, Sandra Houle in Anatomy of a Fall and Emma Stone in Poor Thing.
Justine Triet gets a win-win opportunity
Justine Triet’s Palme d’Or-winning Anatomy of a Fall is a strong contender in the Best Original Screenplay category. Trit will become the first French woman to win in this category. She was also nominated for Best Director, which means if she wins, she could become the fourth woman to win, following Kathryn Bigelow, Chloe Zhao and Jane Campion.
Will Cillian Murphy win Best Actor?
Cillian Murphy won best actor for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.” If he does win his first nomination, Cillian will become the first Irish actor to win best actor. Other nominees include Bradley Cooper for “The Master,” Coleman Domingo for “Rustin,” Paul Giamatti for “The Reservation,” and Jeffrey “American Novel.” ·Wright.
Emma Stone has two chances to win
Emma Stone was nominated for Best Actress and Best Picture for “Poor Things.” If she wins in both categories, she will become the second person to win both the Best Actress Oscar after Frances McDormand won in 2021 for “Nomadland.” award winning actress. Can Martin Scorsese win again?
Martin Scorsese became the most nominated living film director with his nomination for “Killers of the Flower Moon.” This year, Scorsese will work with Justine Triet (“Anatomy of an Autumn”), Christopher Nolan (“Oppenheimer”), Yorgos Lanthimos (“Poor Things”) and Jonathan Glazer (“Interest Zone”) compete in this category. If he wins, it will be his second win in the category. At 81, he may become the oldest winner in the category, a record currently held by Clint Eastwood.
How Hayao Miyazaki made history
Hayao Miyazaki, 83, was nominated for an Academy Award for best animated feature for his semi-autobiographical fantasy film “The Boy and the Heron.” His 2001 feature film “Spirited Away” had already won the award in the same category. If he wins, it will become just the second non-English language film to win the Best Animated Feature category.
Can Oppenheimer sweep it all?
Oppenheimer will enter the Academy Awards with a lead of 13 nominations and will likely be nominated for more than one. It would be historic if a Christopher Nolan movie could be a hit. The record is currently held by 1959’s “Ben-Hur,” which was the first film to win 11 Oscars.
