In a conciliatory statement, PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Taqiuddin Hassan said that his Islamist party accepts the constitutional authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to appoint Anwar.
He said, “PAS is confident that it will discharge its responsibilities well and give priority to the concept of federalism to the states.”
He thanked Anwar for extending an olive branch to Perikatan Nacional (PN) for being part of his government.
“PAS thanks the Prime Minister for offering Perikatan Nasional (PN) to join his unity government and will discuss the matter with constituent partners in the near future as well as receive feedback from our voters who participated in the GE15 enthusiastically extended their support,” he added.
The PN consists of five parties: PAS, Bersatu, Gerkan Sabah Progressive Party, and Parti Solidarity Tanahirku.
In his first speech after being sworn in as prime minister yesterday, Anwar said his government would include not only the PH but also members of former nemeses Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Party Sarawak (GPS).
He said he was ready to welcome the PN, including others, into the “unity government” proposed by the Agong as a way to move on from the results of last Saturday’s general election to a hung parliament.
