KUALA LUMPUR, 25 November – Malaysia will work closely with Singapore to advance Malaysia-Singapore bilateral relations, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
Anwar said this in response to Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s tweet on his appointment as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia.
“Thank you PM @leehsienloong for the telephone call and warm wishes. As close neighbors and partners in ASEAN, Malaysia and Singapore also have many commonalities, intertwined histories and very close and active people-to-people ties.
“I look forward to meeting you at the earliest and working together to take forward Malaysia-Singapore bilateral relations,” Anwar tweeted.
Lee earlier in his tweet congratulated Anwar and expressed interest in working closely with Anwar as well as the new Malaysian government to further strengthen bilateral ties.
“Congratulated Dato’ Seri @anwaribrahim on being sworn in as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia and invited him (Anwar) to visit Singapore soon. I look forward to working with Prime Minister Anwar and the new government to further strengthen our bilateral ties,” Lee said.
Anwar, 75, took the oath of office as the 10th Prime Minister before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Riyatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara here yesterday. – nominated
