Prime Minister inaugurates strategic Sela Tunnel worth Rs 55,000 across six Northeastern states

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple projects worth nearly Rs 55,000 crore in six northeastern states at an event in Arunachal Pradesh.

At an event attended by Chief Minister Pema Khand, Governor KT Parnaik and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who represents the western Arunachal Pradesh Lok Sabha seat, the Prime Minister visited the state capital I The foundation has been laid for several development projects in Thanagarh.

Projects that have been launched include the strategically important Sierra Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, which was built by the Border Roads Organization at a cost of Rs 825 crore. It is the longest two-lane tunnel in the world, built at an altitude of over 13,000 feet.

The Prime Minister inaugurated an Arunachal Pradesh public transport bus passing through the Serra Tunnel.

The tunnel will help facilitate the movement of soldiers, equipment and heavy vehicles towards areas near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Tawang district. The Sela project consists of the 1,003-meter-long Tunnel 1 and the 1,595-meter-long twin-tube Tunnel 2.

A large number of projects were launched and foundation stones were laid in various sectors, including railways, roads, health, housing, education, border infrastructure, information technology, power, oil and gas, etc.

Other projects earmarked by the Prime Minister include the foundation stone laying ceremony of the 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Hydropower Project, India’s tallest dam structure at a cost of Rs 31,876 crore.

The Prime Minister also launched UNNATI (North Pulwa Transformation Industrialization Initiative), a new scheme for industrial development in the Northeast. The scheme, worth Rs 10,000 crore, is expected to attract new investments, help set up new manufacturing and service units and boost employment.

During the event, the Prime Minister also inaugurated projects worth Rs 3,400 crore in Manipur, Rs 1,700 crore in Nagaland, Rs 2.9 billion in Meghalaya, Rs 4.5 billion in Sikkim and Rs 8,500 crore in Tripura Virtual inauguration and foundation laying. , including the Sabrum dry port located along the international border between India and Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Assam on Friday evening and spent the night at a guesthouse in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR). Before setting off for Arunachal Pradesh, he went on a two-hour elephant and jeep safari in a park famous for its one-horned rhino.

The Prime Minister will return to Assam on Saturday afternoon and attend two events, including the unveiling of the 125-foot-tall statue of legendary Ahom general Lachit Borphukan in Jorhat. The Prime Minister will also address a public rally at Meleng Meteli where he will inaugurate several projects worth nearly Rs. 18,000 crore to be borne by the central and state governments.
