Sudharsan, GT’s reigning top scorer this season, was promoted to open the innings alongside Gill as GT eventually ran out of patience with the underperforming Wriddhiman Saha. The move worked wonders for the GT. Gill and Sudarsan created the highest opening partnership in IPL history (210).

Sudarsan broke his maiden IPL century record and became the fastest Indian to reach 1,000 runs in the IPL. The southpaw took just 25 innings to reach a thousand runs in the IPL, beating legends Sachin Tendulkar and Ruturaj Gaikwad to reach the milestone. Tendulkar and Gaikwad jointly hold the record of scoring 1,000 runs in 31 innings of IPL.

The third one in the list is Mumbai Indians batsman Tilak Varma, who scored 1000 IPL points in 33 innings.

In the overall list, Sudarsan ranks fourth. The record for the fastest 1,000 runs in IPL history still stands with Australia’s Shaun Marsh, who played just 21 innings, followed by West Indies opener Lendl Simmons (23 innings) and Australian great Matthew Hayden (25 innings). Sudarsan overtook England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow, who had played 26 innings.

Sudharsan was 69 runs short of the landmark when he started play on Friday. The left-hander started slowly – four of his first seven balls were dotted – but when he hit Shardul Thakur’s first six balls of the night, there was no one Can stop him. Sudarsan hit another big one off Tushar Deshpande in the next over to make his intentions clear.

There was a lull after that as Sudharsan could not hit boundaries in the next five overs, but he was in top form again in the ninth over of the GT innings. Junior Ravindra Jadeja had a single and a six. He was particularly tough on Simajite and Daryl Mitchell, hitting mid-pacers for boundaries at will.

Sudharsan narrated his half-century off 32 balls and then went crazy. He achieved his maiden IPL century in just 18 balls. When he tried to hit Deshpande for another six in the 18th over of the GT match, he was eventually run out for 103.
