A horrifying video shows New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers scaling a glass wall to rescue a terrified woman standing on a ledge on the top of a 54-story building in Manhattan. The 33-year-old woman was reportedly rescued from a Midtown building on East 29th Street last Wednesday. According to reports, at around 3:10 p.m., the NYPD Emergency Services Unit (ESU) received a call stating that the woman was preparing to jump from the building.

When members of the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit (ESU) arrived, they were separated from the woman by a glass barrier, prompting officers to use a rope to gain access to the victim. Once they made sure she was safe, they helped her climb up the glass barrier. After the rescue operation, she was taken to Bellevue Hospital. “When the public needs help, they call the police. When the police need help, they call the ESU. @NYPDSpecialops ESU detectives recently used rope rescue skills to save a distraught man on a 54-story rooftop of women,” NYPD News wrote when sharing the video.

Earlier, a 40-year-old man in Kolkata tried to commit suicide by climbing on a bridge but was rescued by the police. The police promised the frightened man a packet of biryani and a job. A police officer at Karaya station said the incident caused a 30-minute traffic delay on one of the city’s busiest routes. The man made the drastic move because of the emotional turmoil caused by his separation from his wife and the financial hardship caused by business losses.

Police from neighboring stations, members of the Kolkata Police Disaster Management Group (DMG) and fire department rushed to the spot and started talking to him. After being offered biryani and a job, the man agreed to come down.
