If you are planning to travel in festive season then you need to be more cautious about flight schedules and cancellations due to congestion and various other issues. Flight operations at the Mumbai airport will remain suspended for six hours on October 18 for runway maintenance work, which may affect flight operations, airport officials said on Thursday, according to PTI.
Airport operator Adani Group said it planned to close the runway from 11 am to 5 pm on October 18, so that both its runways could be repaired and maintained. The measure is part of its annual post-monsoon preventive maintenance exercise.
Mumbai airport continues to be the second busiest airport, with main runway 9/27 and secondary runway 14/32 with two intersecting runways handling approximately 800 flights per day. The economic city’s airport is the busiest after Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The shutdown period will be used by the facility operator to carry out major works such as upgrade of runway edge light, AGL (Aeronautical Ground Light) for runway 14/32.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) said that in collaboration with key stakeholders, flights have already been rescheduled for the period of runway closure to ensure smooth completion of maintenance work.
Meanwhile, according to the website of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited, the Indian Railways on Friday, 23 September decided to cancel 263 trains due to maintenance and operational reasons. It has also decided to change the source station in 38 trains and short terminate 56. Friday.
In view of doubling work between Sindhavdar-Kankot-Khorana-Bileshwar in Rajkot-Surendranagar section of Rajkot division and non-interlocking work for fourth line connectivity at IB station of Raigarh-Jharsuguda section of Bilaspur division, some trains of Western Railway will also remain suspended.
