Mumbai-based mining giant, Vedanta has increased the sourcing of green energy for various purposes to 1 GW. On Thursday, the company said it is seeking bids to supply another 500 MW of renewable energy. Vedanta has set a target of using 2.5 GW of renewable energy by 2030.

VedantaSunil Duggal, Chief Security Officer and Group CEO, said, β€œThis is an important step towards achieving our 2.5 GW target. renewable Electricity by 2030. We are looking forward to collaborating with the best in the industry as we move forward on our decarbonization goals,” as reported by PTI.

Vedanta has invited Expressions of Interest for supply of Hybrid Renewable Energy to its manufacturing units in states like Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

Earlier, the company had achieved around 580 MW of green power round the clock through Serentica Renewables.

In another development, in its regulatory filing, Vedanta announced that the company has been conferred with the Golden Peacock Global Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance – 2022 under Metals End.

Earlier this month, Vedanta was declared the highest bidder for Ghogharpalli and its Dip Extension coal block located in Odisha’s Sundargarh district under Phase V of the commercial coal block auction conducted by the Ministry of Coal. The mine has total reserves of 1,288 million tonnes and an estimated capacity of 20 million tonnes per annum.
