World Dosa Day: Swiggy delivered 29 million dosa in the past year, an average of 122 dosa per minute

To mark World Dosa Day today (March 3), Swiggy in a report revealed that the company delivered a staggering 29 million Dosa between February 25, 2023 and February 25, 2024. An average of 122 doses per minute. Cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai are leading the way.

The report shows that India’s dosa capital, Bangalore, not only tops the list but also outperforms other major cities, with double the number of dosa orders compared to Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Surprisingly, Chandigarh, famous for its buttery parathas, considers masala dosa as its new favorite food. Dosa is also one of the most popular dishes in Ranchi, Coimbatore, Pune and Bhopal. A Swiggy user from Coimbatore has emerged as the country’s dosa champion, ordering an impressive 447 plates of dosa in the past one year.

During major events like the Cricket World Cup, Indian Premier League and Ramadan, dosa is found to be the most commonly ordered dish. Also, it is the most popular vegetarian dish during Navratri. The prime time to crave pancakes is breakfast time and then dinner time. Among the varieties of Indian dosa, the classic masala dosa takes center stage as the most popular dosa across India, followed by plain dosa, set dosa, onion dosa and butter masala dosa.
