On May 7, the Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, attacked Israeli positions in Kerem Shalom after the Israel Defense Forces captured the Rafah crossing from the Gaza side. “The Qassam Brigades destroyed enemy forces that had penetrated east of the Rafah crossing and bombarded the Kerem Shalom military base with large-caliber mortars and 114 mm short-range Rajoom missile systems,” Hamas said in a statement.
